To give you some
idea of the
services offered
by Weddings in
Crete, read
on…if you decide
that you would
like us to
organise your
wedding then we
will be happy to
forward to you
more detailed
information
which will be
the first stage
in us helping
you to achieve
the day of your
dreams…
What time of
year is it best
to hold a Cretan
wedding?
Crete has a
beautiful
spring, long hot
summer and warm
autumn so choose
the time of year
according to
your seasonal
preferences;
this island
offers beauty
and romance
throughout the
year.
What day of the
week do people
get married?
Although you can
marry on any
day, it is
normal in Crete
to hold weddings
on a Friday or
Saturday.
Civil weddings
must be on a
weekday
What time of day
do people get
married?
Crete in summer
is extremely hot
and weddings
tend to be held
at either 7.00
pm or even 8.00
pm. In July or
August, we would
suggest a
ceremony at 7.30
pm which should
avoid the
intense heat of
the day! Since
it does not get
dark until late
during the
summer months,
this should not
affect your
wedding day
photographs.
How long is the
Greek civil
ceremony?
In Crete, the
formal part of a
civil ceremony
is very short,
literally less
than five
minutes.
So will I get
dressed up in a
beautiful white
dress for a less
than five minute
ceremony?
Not if you let
Weddings in
Crete organise
your day. The
exchanging of
personal vows or
declarations,
readings or the
performance of
music by your
guests can be a
lovely way of
personalising
your wedding.
Weddings in
Crete will
provide you with
our own order of
service
suggestions,
together with
some suggested
readings and
choices of
music.
Will we have an
order of service
then for our
guests?
When you are
married we will
provide copies
of this order of
service as
requested and a
personalised
"certificate of
marriage" in
addition to the
legal paperwork.
Can I get
married in
Church in Crete?
The options for
a Church wedding
in Crete are
limited to the
Greek Orthodox
Church or the
Catholic Church,
but for these
weddings one of
the parties must
be baptized in
the relevant
religion.
So is the choice
only the local
town hall?
With Weddings in
Crete, there are
many other
options for a
civil ceremony –
a Turkish fort
makes a stunning
venue with views
of the White
Mountains (Lefka
Ori) and of
beautiful Souda
Bay, or you may
choose to marry
on the beach, in
the hotel of
your choice or
your holiday
villa, if
suitable.
Who organises
our reception?
We do. Your
reception can be
as formal or
informal as you
like. We at
Weddings in
Crete are happy
to work with you
to find exactly
what suits you
and your wedding
party – whatever
size it may be.
Can we go for a
traditional
Greek style
party with
music, dancing
and lots of
local wine?
We have a number
of restaurants
and Tavernas we
work with; you
can choose from
a VERY old-style
Cretan Taverna
to a high
standard
exclusive
restaurant. We
can offer you
several options
to consider
according to
your taste and
of course your
budget!
I want to get
married in Crete
but I would like
the reception to
be at my villa,
is this
possible?
We can organise
the catering of
your reception
at your villa or
holiday home for
whatever number
of guests you
have, working
with the best
caterers and
cake specialists
in Chania.
What kind of
menu could we
expect to get at
a Taverna
reception?
A typical Cretan
wedding meal
would be a
starter cold
plate of mixed
appetizers (e.g.
stuffed vine
leaves, cheese
pies, meatballs,
Cretan cheese,
salad, olives)
followed by
roasted
lamb/pork with
potatoes, served
with Greek
salad.
Vegetarian
options for the
main meal are of
course
available.
What drinks
would be served
with the meal?
Wine of your
choice would
usually
accompany the
meal … ranging
from barrelled
village wine to
bottles of your
choice and
budget.
What kinds of
desserts are
available in
Crete?
Usually as a
dessert fresh
fruit is served
and/or ice
cream. You
could also
choose to serve
honey and nut
baklavas.
Will I be able
to have a
wedding cake?
A wedding cake
can be ordered
here – the
traditional
Greek wedding
cake is of a
light sponge
with butter
cream, rather
than the
traditional
English heavy
fruit kind,
although this
can be arranged
if required.
Weddings in
Crete uses the
best cake shop
in Chania and
will send you a
choice of design
and prices.
What kind of
entertainment
can we have at
our reception?
We can arrange
live music of
various kinds
ranging from a
guitarist and
bazooka player
singing with no
loudspeakers, to
traditional
Cretan players
and a
performance of
Cretan dancing.
We can also
arrange for a
very talented
female vocalist
to sing both
Greek and
English popular
love songs.
What about
flowers at the
ceremony and
reception?
Flowers, candles
and the general
décor of your
choice of
wedding venue
and of your
reception will
depend on what
you require. We
are able to
offer you a
selection to
accord with your
choice of colour
and of course
personal taste
and in
accordance with
your price range
… we will email
examples for you
to choose from.
Is it
traditional to
decorate the
bridal car?
Yes, and since
you can choose
from a Cabriolet
to a limousine
you can be sure
you will arrive
in style!.
We want to
invite a number
of guests, but
they will all
have different
needs. How can
we organise
this?
Weddings in
Crete can
provide you with
a list of
accommodation of
all kinds in the
area you choose
to stay. This
can range from
hotel or
apartment
accommodation,
villas with
pools or just
simple rooms.
But how will my
guests get to
the ceremony?
Transportation
can be arranged
for you and your
guests, but your
requirements
will depend upon
how many of your
guests have hire
cars. We can
arrange anything
from a luxury
car for the
bride and groom
to a minibus or
taxi (maximum 4
passengers) for
those without
transport; or
even hiring a
coach.
Can you
recommend a good
photographer or
DVD maker?
Weddings in
Crete recommends
using one of the
best
photographers in
Crete. He will
photograph the
ceremony and the
reception and
take you out
around the
beautiful
Venetian streets
of Chania for a
pre-wedding
shoot, if you
would like this
extra service.
We can arrange
for a video,
too, if you
require.
As we will be a
big party, we
want to have our
Hen and Stag
nights in
Crete. Can you
help with this?
We can arrange
for Stag or Hen
nights, giving
advice about
where to eat,
drink and club.
We would give
guidelines of
where to go and
make sure the
party gets back
to their
accommodation!!
I
would like to
have my hair
done properly
for my big day;
do you recommend
a particular
place?
Every bride
wants to look
her best... we
can arrange
appointments
with an
experienced and
highly
recommended
hairdresser
including, if
you have special
requirements, a
rehearsal
session. This
can be at her
salon or at your
own
accommodation.
Any other beauty
treatments you
can help with?
Manicure,
pedicure and
makeup are all
services
available if you
wish. In
addition we can
arrange a
spoiling day for
the bride,
bridesmaids and
mothers at a
beautiful spa
hotel.
I would like to
have a small
firework
display, is this
possible?
We can arrange
anything from a
fixed
professional
display to your
own personal
choice of one or
two special
fireworks.
What paperwork
do we need to
get married in
Crete?
Certain
documentation is
of course
required to
enable you to
marry in Crete
including birth
certificates and
photocopies of
passports.
Details and
instructions
regarding these
requirements
will be
confirmed to
you.
Will I have to
organise all the
translations?
We have found
that it is
sometimes more
economical for
translations to
be arranged in
Crete so we have
added this as an
extra service
available to all
our clients.
You provide the
original
documents and we
organise
translations.
